Bologna: Foxes and hares under the lens. A satellite will follow them.
The ETERNAL RACE for survival between foxes and hares will be followed and analyzed with the help of the satellite. Under the lens of the experts of the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (Ispra), the restocking and capture area of the Sasso Morelli hamlet will end. The aim of the project, in which the Province of Bologna also participates, is to increase knowledge about the biology of the two animals typical of our territory and the way in which they use their natural habitat.
TO REACH this goal, thirty hares will be captured (divided equally between 15 female and 15 male specimens) together with three to four foxes, to which GPS collars will be applied (therefore identifiable thanks to the satellite).
Their movements will therefore be tracked at every moment, in order to determine step by step the rhythms, activities and behaviors of hares and foxes and also to understand any interference between man and agricultural activity on the life of animals.
THE PROJECT that sees Ispra and the Province together does not, however, fully convince the provincial councilor of Future and Freedom, Giuseppe Sabbioni, who asks to be clear on some aspects: Despite admitting that the research is "of great interest", Sabbioni presented a question in provincial council because it wants some explanations. In particular, he is not convinced by the fact that the lenders "are two multinational industries based in Germany".
The EXPONENT Finiano wants to know "what the two multinationals do and how much the funding is", as well as knowing why the University of Florence (Department of Evolutionary Biology) was chosen instead of the Alma Mater of Bologna .
