Hunting - Maremma Hounds & Elba Island: island of iron, sea, sun and wild boars.
The CAC tests of excellence on wild boar took place in Elba on 21-22-23 April. Organized by the local section of the Pro Segugio, they had a great success of participation by the competitors, most of them coming from the continent, two of which even came from the provinces of Brescia and Udine. The competitors took accommodation at the Le Calanchiole Village in Capoliveri where the organizational phases and the awards ceremony took place.
The tests took place in free land with an excellent presence of wild boars, in the typical Mediterranean scrub. The weather conditions were ideal for the first two days, but terrible in the last with winds from the south-east and persistent rain. Beautiful landscapes that faced judges and competitors, the Mediterranean vegetation in full bloom with glimpses of crystalline sea and in the distance the other islands of the Tuscan Archipelago.
The subjects presented are excellent, mostly of the Maremma hound breed, who have ventured into very demanding shifts with real wild animals in their natural habitat, in this type of tests the dog must be really well physically prepared and accustomed to hunting.
The jury made up of judges among the best in the specialty is highly qualified:

A hint of the test of the Maremma Silenzio hound by Andrea Gelsi who, with rain and strong winds from the South-East, made an action of approach for a long distance and when he reached the wild, he carried out the actions of barking at rest and subsequent followed, interspersed with attempts of defense by wild boars, with style and absolute mastery. A textbook round that with a score of 182 points made him assign the CAC (Certificate Aptitude to the Championship).
Another noteworthy subject is Paolo Cucini's Maremma Elba hound who with a great turn, managing the game in the best possible way, showed expressiveness and great typicality of the breed. A behavior that earned her an EXCELLENT 174 points. For couples, the Maremma bloodhounds Baracca and Brigantina of Aleandro Pasco stood out, winning an EXCELLENT 173 points with an excellent race conduct.
