The National Park of the Casentinesi Forests, Monte Falterona and Campigna announces to the public the main results of the roaring deer census held last September 2013. The well-established event, and with a large following of participants within the autumn calendar, is was conducted on behalf of the Park Authority by the DREAm Company. Italy with the collaboration of the three Provinces concerned, the State Forestry Corps, the Unions of Municipalities and territorial hunting areas. The activities took place in a monitoring area of about 20.000 hectares, for a total of 220 listening points scattered throughout the protected area, with the novelty of the portion of San Benedetto in Alpe being added to this. year to the historical census area. Tens of thousands of bells, in the two evenings of survey, with oscillations according to the slopes, the intensity of the wind and the time slots. More or less markedly, the presence of some particular centers where deer activity is concentrated is confirmed, in the valleys of Moggiona and Vallolmo in Tuscany, in Pian del Grado, Ridracoli and Casanova in Romagna.
The result, in the end, tells of a certain minimum number of male bramenti equal to 370, with a density of 1,9 heads per 100 hectares in the surveyed area. If in the province of Arezzo the number is close to 250 head, with a density greater than 2 head / 100 ha, in the Romagna side of the Park the estimated deer are around 120, with a density of about 1,5 head / 100 ha, while the Florentine portion has just 2 specimens, which is certainly underestimated due to the low coverage obtained.
Overall, these data are very similar to the previous year, with slightly higher values for the Tuscan side. The triangulations carried out also revealed that the bellowing activity is more intense in the altitudinal range between 700 and 1000 meters above sea level. between 1850-2050 specimens.
