Hunting and Fauna: Padua, wild boars devastate crops, Coldiretti asks for urgent culling to contain the species. Immediate intervention of the prefect is requested.
The trade association denounces the devastation in the entire area of the Euganean hills: from Este to Torreglia, from Monselice to Vo ', but also Galzignano, Lozzo, Arquà Petrarca. A corn field in Teolo, for Coldiretti “the effects of the passage of wild boars are evident” A corn field in Teolo, for Coldiretti “the effects of the passage of wild boars are evident. Where the wild boars pass, nothing grows ”. This is how Federico Miotto, president of Coldiretti Padova, summarizes, paraphrasing an old saying that has as its protagonist the most famous barbarian in history, Attila, the emergency situation in which the farmers of the Euganean hills find themselves. According to a monitoring by the trade association, the boar raids concern the entire Park area, from Este to Torreglia, from Monselice to Vo ', but also Galzignano, Lozzo, Arquà Petrarca. The devastation would affect from vineyards to corn, from olive groves to orchards.
HARVESTS DECIMATED. Coldiretti denounces "the general indifference and substantial inaction of the authorities in charge" and shows the image of the field of a farmer associated with Teolo (in the photo above), repeatedly "visited" by wild ungulates, with few and sparse seedlings of corn. It would be the effects of the repeated nocturnal raids of wild boars. “Over 80 percent of the harvest will be lost - comments Miotto - all this due to a problem that, despite its gravity, nobody wants to solve. And let's not talk about compensation, please, because we risk opening a story that is ridiculous and scandalous to say the least ”.
PREFECT ACTION ASKED. "At this point, only the extreme solutions remain, given that those who are called to solve the problem have shown all their powerlessness - adds the president of the trade association - Coldiretti Padova, together with the other agricultural organizations, intends to ask the Prefect to immediately initiate a radical abatement plan, coordinated by the prefecture itself. The survival of agriculture in large areas of our province is at stake, the future of many companies is at stake but also of an entire ecosystem that risks collapsing ”.
