Hunting and Fauna: Udine, compensation for damage caused by wildlife on the provincial territory fades, the Region has not allocated the necessary funds.
“The Region has not transferred adequate resources to the institution for this type of compensation, despite the reminders. No request for compensation for damage to vehicles caused by wildlife presented in 2013 to the Province of Udine will be satisfied. In these days we will send communications to applicants with the appropriate explanations ". The announcement is made by the provincial councilor for hunting and fishing Marco Quai who details the reasons behind this decision. "The Region - explains the commissioner - has not transferred adequate resources to the body for this type of compensation despite the reminders, the last one of these days addressed to the regional department for productive activities, agricultural and forestry resources, hunting service and fishing. A non-compliance and an evident and repeated disinterest - he adds - towards the damaged citizens who ask to have their right respected for which the Region will have to answer ”. The commissioner also notes that “the Region is withholding the 84 euro tax that the hunters of this province (about 6 thousand units) pay precisely to implement the compensation fund. A total of over 500 thousand euros which rightfully belong to our territory ".
The requests received by the offices of the Province of Udine in 2013 amounted to 264 for a total of estimated compensation of 591 thousand euros. "From the Region, in the first part of 2013, we received 152 thousand 586 euros - Quai specifies -, an insufficient amount for adequate compensation to requesting motorists, as part of this amount (70%) is already obligatorily committed for compensation and the prevention of damage caused to agricultural production by wildlife and the exercise of hunting ". In order to satisfy the requests for compensation, the Province has asked the Region to transfer 80% of the total amount of the cases investigated in 2013, on the order of 470 thousand euros.
In addition to denouncing the problem of resources, the Province of Udine is taking action to identify solutions capable of containing the causes of accidents and damages, namely the high number of wildlife (primarily roe deer and wild boar) present in our territory. "We are evaluating together with the directors of the hunting reserves, the hunting associations, the veterinarians - concludes Quai - new strategies to be implemented on the basis of experiences already made and which have proved to be effective".
