Hunting: Pistoia, the Province has approved the Hunting Calendar, in the part concerning the selective collection of deer such as red deer, fallow deer and roe deer, valid for the 2013-2014 Hunting Season.
The Provincial Government has approved the part of the hunting calendar relating to the selective collection of roe deer, red deer and fallow deer for the 2013-2014 hunting season. For these species, in fact, hunting is organized according to Sampling Plans that pre - determine the quota of animals that can be killed, in order to keep the natural increase in populations under control and to contain its negative impact on agricultural activities and forestry. The provision, in compliance with the provisions of the Regional Law 20/2002 on the hunting calendar of the Tuscany Region, also takes into account the opinion of the Superior Institute of Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) also regarding the periods of the year in which it is appropriate to preclude o allow the hunting of the various classes: young / adult and male / female. Compared to the previous year, the selective hunting of roe deer (males, juveniles and adults only) is brought forward to June 15, with the possibility of culling until July 15; then it starts again from August 15th to September 30th, as for the other years. Roe deer females and young will only be hunted from 1 January to 15 March 2014. For the adult male deer, however, there is a reduction in the periods, since this year it will not be possible to start the Plans before October 2 (the last year the selection hunt was also open in August and September).
The duration of the collection period is important to ensure that the number of animals provided for in the Plan is achieved, otherwise, especially when the autumn-winter months are characterized by difficult weather conditions and repeated snowfalls (hunting is prohibited in these conditions), it is It is possible that the number of culled animals is far lower than planned and, therefore, insufficient to control the populations.
For this reason, other Regions, such as Emilia Romagna, had already for some time implemented the early opening to adult and young male roe deer; for Tuscany it is a novelty, which required some additional organizational effort and which saw the adhesion of most of the Provinces. We remind you that the coexistence of hunting with other outdoor activities is ensured by the timely compliance with the safety rules, which hunters authorized to these species (selecontrollers) must comply with.
For the other huntable species it is not yet possible to define the hunting calendar as a recent sentence of the Constitutional Court has intervened on the Regional Law of reference and the provision, which defines the provincial indications for the hunting season, is subject to the issuance of new directives. regional via ad hoc administrative act.
