CIC Italy: the conference on “Hunting and Communication”, the hunting world and communication took place on 8 June in Asolo, in the province of Treviso.
The Italian Delegation of the CIC, International Council for Hunting and Wildlife Protection, with the decisive organizational support of the partner Avv. Enrico Adriano Raffaelli, originally from the Asolo area, organized the “Hunting and Communication” Conference on 8 June 2013, held at the prestigious headquarters of the Council Chamber of the town hall of Asolo, in the Treviso area. First of all, the mayor Loredana Baldisser, the Prefect of Treviso Aldo Adinolfi and the Regional Councilor for Hunting Daniele Stival brought their institutional greetings: three interventions that, in reality, went far beyond simple pleasantries, pushing on the contrary, very effectively, to the heart of some of the aspects subsequently debated.
As the title of the Conference clearly testifies, the objective of CIC Italia was to favor a careful analysis of the conflictual relationship of hunting activity and of those who practice it with the world of communication and the media in particular, so that it is almost never possible to convey a positive message about hunting to "general" public opinion or, at least, mere information on what Italian hunters know how to do and do for the territory and wildlife far beyond the simple act of the withdrawal. For these reasons, in the large audience that attended the proceedings there were not only members of CIC Italia but also numerous representatives of local institutions, of the management bodies of the Veneto Territorial Hunting Areas and of hunting associations in general. An appointment whose strategic centrality was evidenced by the participation in the entire working day by the President of the CIC Bernard Lozè and by the political advisor and lobbyist of the French FNC (Fédération Nationale des Chasseurs) Thierry Coste.
Watched by the magnificent birds of prey on the fist of falconers Patrizia Cimberio and Andrea Villa, the three speakers, the lawyer. Innocenzo Gorlani from Brescia, prof. Alberto Quaglino of the Polytechnic of Turin and Coste himself, introduced by the Head of Delegation CIC Italia avv. Giovanni Bana and moderated by the lawyer. Raffaelli, dealt with the theme of the Conference from multiple points of view: the juridical framework in the double perspective "information - communication" was carried out by Gorlani, a profound connoisseur of hunting and of what revolves around it; the scientific and systematic framework on what to do and how to proceed was the prerogative of Quaglino, always clear and precise in outlining the objectives; finally, Coste explained the virtuous path undertaken by French hunters in the last ten years, made possible by experiences that were not exactly profitable in previous years which, however, made it possible to avoid the repetition of harmful errors for the hunting cause.
The conclusions were entrusted to the Vice President of the CIC dr. Massimo Marracci, who summarized the ideas of main importance that emerged from the reports, urging the Italian hunting world to finally decide to make a system by fully planning its strategies, also and above all in terms of communication, given that hunters are already useful to the community and more could be in the future differently from what is commonly believed. A debate followed, moderated by journalist and CIC member Bruno Modugno, between Gianluca Dall'Olio, President of the FIdC, Marco Castellani, President of ANUUMigratoristi and Mariano Trevisan, Regional President of ANLC of Veneto.
The three speakers fully agreed on the analysis and job prospects that emerged from the Conference, agreeing on the need for that leap in quality to be made as quickly as possible - also in the information and communication sector addressed by hunters to "others" - which has become undelayable and thus demonstrating a unity of purpose that gives good hope for the concreteness of the action of the hunting world at national level. This, moreover, would do nothing more than become part of the broad process, underway since 2012, of rapprochement between some national associations (FIdC, ANUUMigratoristi, CPA) to arrive at the construction of a new unitary entity, which could one day lead to a only associative representation of all Italian hunters through the membership of associations that, to date, are still kept out of this path.
Among the numerous interventions from the room, we remember those of the CIC members Giovanni Persona, Andrea Negri, Gianluigi Quaglio, Vittorio Scoccini and Enzo Berzieri, of the institutional representatives Claudio Lorenzini and Stefano D'Ambrosi of MIPAF and Gianfranco Zoller, consultant of the Province of Milan, as well as of the exponents of hunting associations Andrea Trenti, Alessandro Gambirasi, Domenico Rossato. The confrontation of ideas then continued on the following day in Bassano del Grappa (VI), where the participants, against the backdrop of the Grappa massif, enjoyed the opportunity to visit the exceptional private museum collection of CIC member Renato Luca at his residence of Villa Cà Erizzo, one of the most complete in the world so as to successfully rival, on mammals and birds, with the most famous public collections preserved in museums also abroad.
A worthy conclusion for two days of works and events of particular interest, made even more complete by the suggestive cultural visit of the old Canova house-workshop in Possagno and opened by the introductory evening in the home of Maristella and Enrico Adriano Raffaelli, perfect organizers, such as prelude to the 61st General Assembly of the CIC in Milan 2014 (23-26 April), with the hope that soon the organization of hunting in Italy will benefit from it.
