Emanuele Monti, councilor of the Northern League of the Lombardy region, announced the decree that the commissioner Gianni Fava made official about the temporary closure of the hunt in "Campo dei Fiori" Regional Park, in the province of Varese. The request had come from Monti himself following fires that are affecting this area of Lombardy. The hunting activity will be suspended from today, Wednesday 1st November, until November 16 2017, therefore two full weeks.
The municipal territories in which the provision will be in force will also be those of Comerio, Barasso, Luvinate, Casciago, Varese e Brinzio. The same local authority had, however, specified a few hours before that the regional legislation on hunting already provides for forms of protection of the fauna that are able to deal with the emergency. Fava recalled, in particular, Article 43 of Regional Law 26 of 1993 ("Regulations for the protection of wildlife and for the protection of the environmental balance and discipline of hunting").
The letter M of the first paragraph provides that hunting is prohibited in land affected by fires for a minimum of two years. In addition, the commissioner has ruled out any type of abuse by hunters in the territories affected by the fires, any transgression will in any case be sanctioned.
