Wanda Ferro, regional councilor of the Calabria (Mixed Group), took charge of the alarm raised by several mayors of the municipalities in province of Vibo Valentia and Catanzaro, in addition to citizens' committees. The emergency represented by wild boars is increasingly serious and it is for this reason that the Region was asked for an extraordinary abatement plan.
The goal is to derogate from the hunting calendar and increase the selecontrollers. The plan adopted so far has not worked and for this reason adequate responses are needed. Ferro recalled the latest episodes that tell of invasions of ungulates also in inhabited centers: the damage to farms is considerable and there is no shortage of raids in the coastal areas of this part of Calabria. Nor should the health risk be underestimated.
In fact, outbreaks of tuberculosis are a sad reality and some time ago the UPI (Union of Provinces of Italy) of Calabria asked for interventions in parks and protected areas, the traditional wild boar shelters. A greater number of days for hunting, therefore, appears to be an essential measure, not to mention the veterinary checks and support for the primary sector so badly hit.
