The appeals addressed to the Italian regions to ask for the suspension and postponement of the hunting season 2017-2018 continue to multiply. There are some, however, that make more "noise" than others. A clear example of this is the declaration of Pinuccia Montanari, Councilor for Environmental Sustainability of Municipality of Rome. In a nutshell, the Capitol asked the Lazio Region to meet the needs of the "wild animals severely affected by fires, heat and drought".
In addition, the commissioner relied in his speech on the recommendations of the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA). Montanari wrote a letter to Charles Hausmann, regional councilor for hunting, and the aim is to obtain a moratorium on hunting activities in the Roman territories affected by the fires. Apart from the grammatical error committed by the municipal councilor, i.e. referring to theISPRA in the feminine (the I indicates the word Institute), there is another detail that Roma Capitale has not taken into consideration.
In fact, the territories of the Capitol where hunting is practiced are limited, therefore, even if accepted by the Region, the impact on the fauna would be negligible. Montanari, however, specified that he did not want to prohibit the withdrawal, but to suspend it for an unspecified period.
