In South Tyrol have been sighted 13 specimens of mouflon, to be precise in the reserve of Andriano (autonomous province of Bolzano). The alarm is serious, a guard of theHunting Office he managed to kill a wild one, but flocks have been widespread in the area for a year now. Nor is it excluded that i mouflons in question they arrived in the territory naturally, coming from the nearby Trentino. The hypothesis is rejected only by the fact that one is talking about one typically sedentary species and that the movement would have been prevented and hindered by the snow, but no reconstruction can be discarded.
As in other areas, the mouflon usually occupies the habitats of other ungulates such as deer, roe deer and chamois, a competition that ruins both the survival of animals and that of plants. As recognized by the Hunting Office itself, the spread of a species of the genus it is not frowned upon in South Tyrol.
The withdrawal, however, is guaranteed and authorized by a provincial decree that was approved in 1997. The legal text just mentioned is the basis of the most recent slaughter, without forgetting that it operates in the same way in areas not too far away where the mouflons come from Val di Fassa.
