Thirty years is a rather long period to draw up a balance sheet on the presence of the wildlife. Over the past three decades, the presence of roe deer, red deer, chamois, mouflons and fallow deer throughout the Veneto increased threefold. The numbers were released by the Region with an accurate and detailed report. In 1990 the census of these animals had stopped at 20 thousand presences, while in 2019 they became 53mila.
The work was made possible thanks to the efforts made by the Hunting and Fishing Offices of the Venetian provinces which dealt with the evolution of ungulates, specifically those found in the mountains and in the woods. No less important and underlined was the regulatory function of hunters. The greatest growth was recorded by deer, with over 12 thousand specimens. No less massive was the chamois boom, though a stabilization in recent years.
The roe deer, on the other hand, went from 14 thousand to 23 thousand during the time period just mentioned. Consequently they could not fail to grow killing of hunters. The percentage of withdrawals did not reach 10% in the early XNUMXs, while lately it has reached as far as 15%, with differences between species and species. The numbers are available to everyone and will be taken into due consideration by the local authority for the future withdrawal plans.
