More and more withdrawals
Following the meeting held in the Region on 10 July with the representatives of the bodies managing protected areas (national and regional parks and regional nature reserves) in the presence of the extraordinary commissioner for African swine fever (Psa), Vincenzo Caputo, we note a significant increase in the number of samples of the wild boar species, in particular in the Pollino Park, in the Vulture park and in the Gallipoli Cognato park, through the various techniques of endorsement, selective control from a fixed stakeout and capture using cages.
The parks concerned
In detail, the regional councilor for the Latronico environment communicates, as a result of the monitoring activities conducted by the Parks office of the General Directorate of the Environment, Territory and Energy, in the first two weeks of July the collection of 24 animals in the Vulture Regional Park, 18 animals in the Gallipoli Regional Park and 60 animals in the Pollino National Park was recorded. As regards the Lucanian Apennine National Park, the Regional Park of the Rupestrian Churches and the Protected Areas managed by the Provinces, active surveillance actions have been intensified which have made it possible to ascertain the absence of infected animal carcasses.
Actions to be intensified
In compliance with the commissioner's ordinances and the changed regulatory framework, we will give further impetus, concludes Latronico, to the managers of protected areas, and in particular to the Lucanian Apennine National Park, to the Regional Park of the Rock Churches and to the Province of Matera, so that the invitation to intensify all the planned actions aimed at containing the wild boar population present in the regional territory are implemented (source: Basilicata Region).
