New perimeter
On the praetorian roll of Park of Migliarino San Rossore Massaciuccoli the documents relating to the proposal for a new integrated plan sent to the Region have been published and they also include the proposal for the new perimeter of the internal areas and contiguous areas of the park itself. We note with satisfaction that many of the requests we have brought forward in recent months have been accepted and that compared to the draft initially circulated, many situations with a strong impact on hunting activity have been resolved by maintaining these areas in an contiguous area. In particular, we can note that the arguments and observations punctually presented by our association have made it possible to safeguard the vast majority of fixed stakeouts and unjustified penalizations of other forms of hunting. However, we can only note with considerable opposition how once again the new territorial planning of a Park envisages an enlargement of the areas precluded from hunting instead of concentrating on the resolution of the management problems present in the current internal areas. Among the areas affected by the expected enlargement of the internal area, there are still worrying situations for some areas strongly affected by the hunting activity that we had reported without unfortunately being able to get a positive response.
Opinions and first reactions
Finally, some considerations regarding the opinions and initial reactions that this proposal is arousing and will arouse: We cannot fail to note positively how various municipal administrations, Massarosa in primis, but also the attention shown by the mayor of the municipality of Pisa, have shown a sensitivity towards the hunting activity positively evaluated for its historical and cultural value as well as for its essential function of management and protection of the territory. These are values which, on the other hand, seem completely unknown to the members of the scientific committee of the park, to the usual animal-environmental associations as well as to some exponents of the local political world. According to them, in fact, it would also be necessary that the current areas outside the park, where hunting has been carried out up to now, should fall within the internal hunting-prohibited area and not in the contiguous area. Conservation reasons for various habitats are put forward, forgetting that these habitats have been preserved until now despite, and often, for example for wetlands, thanks to hunting. These reasons appear to us even more singular if we consider that many habitats included in the internal area are in an objective state of degradation, the situation of the Lame di fuori suffices as an example, and we do not know that those who now request new restricted areas are ever bothered to solicit or propose solutions.
Enlargement request
Furthermore, considering that in the contiguous areas the park will continue to dictate management guidelines, it is not clear all this frenzied request for enlargement of the internal area if not for mere ideological reasons opposed to the hunting activity, which we now take for granted by the usual acronyms, but that we would have expected were not expressed by exponents of the local scientific and political world. Federcaccia Toscana - Unione Cacciatori Toscani takes sides against this anachronistic vision of hunting understood as a problem and not as a useful tool for management, and against the equally anachronistic vision of a territory to be "plastered" instead of managed with the collaboration of all bearers of interest. We will continue to deal with the issue during all the passages at the regional level which will lead to the final approval of the new integrated plan, and therefore of the new perimeter of the Park, following a process that is still very long and articulated, so that the needs of the hunting world. We will take care of organizing further meetings open to all hunters in the provinces of Lucca and Pisa to provide the necessary updates and developments on the situation (source: FIDC).
