Wild boar hunting: In Lecco, prevention must be taken to avoid an excessive spread of ungulates.
«FOR THE MOMENT in our province the situation is not yet so serious but prevention must be taken to avoid their spread». Thus Luciano Spadaccini, which for 43 years has been organizing the training courses of Federcaccia Lecco, comments on the news of the presence of wild boars in the area, the subject of a conference that the Province held last Saturday. «In our area there have been sporadic sightings in Val Boazzo and Colico and two others have been shot down in Valvarrone - continues Spadaccini -. These were newly placed animals so it was easier to catch them. The biggest problem concerns the area of the Larian Triangle where the Province of Como is already mobilizing ».
THE PROBLEM highlighted by some experts in the sector is that even in the open season not all card holders can try their hand at hunting this dangerous animal. «According to the provisions in our province - explains Spadaccini - wild boars can only be hunted in selection with a rifle shot, contrary to what happens in the neighboring provinces, as we do for roe deer. It is therefore a selected hunt. Added to this is the fact that not everyone can hunt wild boars. In fact, a special course with relative exam is needed. We start first with the course for expert hunter, then as a companion and finally the one to be able to hunt ungulates. However, for some years the Province has not organized the courses and in recent days we have requested to be able to hold them at the Federcaccia. These are courses with legislation that applies to the whole Region. In the meantime we are keeping those for the hunting qualification ».
THE SOLUTION better, however, is to keep the spread of ungulates under constant control. «It is better to prevent the problem with monitoring actions - underlines Spadaccini - to intervene where there are immissions. Some people release these animals in our woods, mostly bought in Tuscany, for the fun of hunting. These are detrimental to the alpine fauna because they are omnivorous. Not to mention the damage to crops for thousands of euros ». The badges issued in the province of Lecco are 2.400 of the Federcaccia plus 300 of other associations.
