These are the numbers released by the Councilor for Agriculture, Food and Green Systems of the Lombardy Region Fabio Rolfi, who spoke this morning, in Rome, during the demonstration organized by Coldiretti in piazza Montecitorio, on the theme of wildlife.
“The uncontrolled proliferation of wild boar, roe deer, red deer, otters, hares, fallow deer and of all wildlife - underlined the Lombard councilor - is a disaster for Lombard agriculture and for the safety of people. In 2018 there were 803 road accidents caused by these animals in our region. We had to reimburse farmers for € 1,2 million due to wildlife damage. The Region - he added - has intervened massively with provincial control plans and with selection hunting.
We have doubled the abatements compared to 2018 ″. "The government must now act in a concrete, not ideological way," said Fabio Rolfi, who said he was opposed to the institution of auxiliaries for wildlife control. "These results were obtained thanks to the hunters - remarked the commissioner Rolfi -, taking advantage of every possibility that the law allows and taking advantage of thevoluntary commitment of those who practice hunting ". "Now is the time - he hoped - that the Government simplifies the procedures and recognizes the figure of the selecontrollers, that is, hunters already trained who can implement the control plans voluntarily". “Politics - concluded the commissioner Rolfi - must abandon any ideology on the use of hunting that is an activity to protect the environment, to maintain the balance of the ecosystem ".
