Beautiful, sweet and colorful season, autumn hunting is all dedicated to the migratory hunter who knows his prey and his habits.
Autumn is a wonderful season. The earth offers tasty foods that man has learned to pack and preserve properly, just to enjoy them throughout the year. This is precisely the period in which the hunter, in his spare time, does not go hunting for wild but rather for mushrooms and chestnuts, and the ideal time for harvesting the olives to be confectioned. But it is also and above all the season for migratory birds, which do what we all would like to do: they head south, towards the sunny and warm areas of the world.
Whether you are a migratory or sedentary hunter, the charm of this period is indisputable and once upon a time between October and November all the wonders that had been created during the year were displayed. Mechanical calls to intertwine, huts for stalking, games and flyers were placed precisely in this period, and the hunter, who was even before a craftsman and a great connoisseur of the habits of these birds, just in autumn, during the hunting days, gave the best of oneself. Today everything is simpler, the calls are bought, and the huts are assembled prefabricated, and perhaps for this reason the charm of the period is partly dull. Yet the suggestion of autumn remains given that, although the times and the behavioral philosophies of hunters change, birds do not change their habits. And the hunter today as yesterday, immersed in the woods, becomes one with nature.
The most popular autumn hunt is perhaps the turdidae hunt: the bottaccio and the stone. And the olive trees, being the favorite dwellings of these two wonderful birds, during this period are also kept under an eye by hunters who, before hunting, study the movements of the birds that pass from the woods to the expanses of olive groves. Only at this point do they position their stalks, in the place they consider most congenial to hunting and try to blend in, blending in with nature. It is a necessary attention, we know that thrushes are endowed with a miraculous sight and are not easily deceived. The beginning of the hunting day is never too simple: it is still oxen and placing good shots is difficult, but the problems are overcome during the morning, when, if lucky, the journey between the woods and olive trees will be a coming and going of birds. Sunset is also a pretty good time to go hunting for thrushes, returning to the woods. It is not unusual to meet some blackbirds among the comings and goings of the thrushes, which, due to their low flight, have created many problems for hunters. Autumn is also the time of hunting for larks and wood pigeons.
The former are usually hunted in the plains or in the highlands, badly going to the plains. What matters is that during the days of the start of the pass you can admire wonderful flocks of larks in flight. Also in this case, the majority of hunters prefer to set up a special stakeout and use calls, whether they are live or mechanical. The presence of some games is also essential. What is not essential is the early rising: in fact, the lark is not a morning bird, but gives the hunter the opportunity to try his hand at the hunting experience for the whole morning. The hunt for wood pigeon also requires a certain preparation: stalking and live calls will require a considerable commitment from dawn, but then, at the first light of the morning, the satisfactions will arrive directly from the sky, in the company of wood pigeons. And preparation is so important that it often doesn't matter how many birds you catch, what really matters is the hunter's ability to get them close. In fact, the wood pigeon is not only a particularly intelligent and attentive bird, but also very suspicious. This makes the life of the migratory hunter even more stimulating, who will be able, in the case of unsatisfactory years, to always trust in the coming seasons.
