Thanks to the control activity against the proliferation of nutria, performed by the ATC coadjutor hunters, coordinated by the Province, last year, along the banks of the rivers, they were almost killed 9 thousand nutria. The numbers emerged in a meeting, which took place in recent days, between the president of the Province Gian Domenico Tomei and the presidents of the three Modena Atc, Stefano Gasperi for the Atc Mo 1 of the plain, Romano Canovi for the Atc Mo 2 of hills and mountains and Flavia Landi for the high mountain Atc Mo3. «The activity of protection of the levees against the damage caused by fauna represents an absolute priority - underlined Tomei - which has been intensified in recent years as part of the plan on the safety of the Modenese waterways, initiated by the flood of 2014.
Based on the regional law, approved byIspra, which provides for the eradication of the species, we have set up an organizational model, coordinated by the Province, which involves the coadjutor hunters who have a fundamental role with positive results and constant numbers in recent years ». The meeting was also an opportunity to take stock of the more comprehensive activity of the Atc for the control of wildlife which, Tomei highlighted, "ensures a correct faunal balance also for the protection of all species and agriculture", and of open problems, among which the procedures for carrying out fox control plans, always to protect the banks, and the proliferation of wild boars.
Over 1500 hunters are employed for all control activities, who have participated in a specific training course, with the coordination of the Provincial Police; a number intended for increase with the planning of new courses requested by the ATC, in order to respond as more effectively to the growing requests from farms and to continue with the protection of the embankments. Also last year, in the plain Atc Mo 1 alone, over 300 coadjutors answered about 1600 requests for intervention by farms, especially for the presence of starlings and pigeons and for the protection of fish farms (LaPressa.it).
