The hunting police of Forest Rangers intervened in the last few hours within the Gutturu Mannu Regional Park, not far from Cagliari, to combat poaching phenomena. As reported by La nuova sardegna, the blitz was really massive and had as its final balance the free-footed complaint of six people. The disputed allegations are different, viz hunting with unauthorized means, detention of protected animal species and birding. In addition, a lot has been seized forbidden game, captured thanks to very special tools, without forgetting the reclamation of the areas involved.
The complaints were possible after a series of stalking: the poachers were caught red-handed just as they arranged nets, snares and other tools and they were retrieving the animals. In particular, the agents arrested a 32 year old from Capoterra, already known for his crimes related to poaching, a 46 year old from Capoterra, a 45 year old from Pula, a 31 year old from Cagliari, a 31 year old from Capoterra and a 27 year old of Capoterra. As for the kidnappings, however, it is necessary to underline the pieces of a Sardinian deer, nine wild boars, 75 thrushes, three protected turtles, over 4 thousand snares, 170 nets and around 900 snares used to capture deer and wild boar.
Among other things, this forbidden game was resold to some Cagliari restaurants, as emerged from a series of files found during the operation: the criminal complaints were accompanied by reporting to the public security authority and poachers were banned from visiting the Gutturu Mannu area. In addition to the Forestry, volunteers from the Lipu (Italian Bird Protection League) and that of other associations such as the LAC, the LAV and the WWF. The collaboration has lasted for some time now and includes a series of awareness-raising initiatives in Sardinian schools to protect biodiversity and the environment.
