Il Adige-Po Reclamation Consortium is monitoring with the utmost attention the tightness of the embankments in the Polesine. In particular, the main concerns are that otters dig their burrows jeopardizing the foundations. As the agricultural association ascertained Coldiretti, only in this area there are about 100 thousand specimens, as if to say one rodent for every two citizens. They are also steadily increasing, with frightening growth in reproductive terms.
The agricultural sector is in constant difficulty, but the Consortium itself trusts in the eradication plan: the president Mauro Visentin believes that the results obtained so far have been good, thanks to the use of traps and rifles. The population remains large, but the optimism is palpable. Just at the beginning of this year, therefore nine months ago, a training course for the control of otters organized by the Province of Rovigo.
The lessons were given to those who intended to collaborate in this containment. The operators were trained on zoology applied to hunting, biology, the ethology of the nutria and the practical tests of recognition of the species, without forgetting hunting weapons and ammunition to employ. In these days, finally, CIA Turin has launched an appeal not to consider the nutria as a "nice" and companion animal.
