Approved in Regional Council of Liguria of 5 October, on the proposal of the vice president with responsibility for hunting Alexander Piana, the new modalities for the control of ungulates, given the repeated dangerous situations encountered following the uncontrolled increase in wildlife. “We have introduced new specialized figures, in order to support the constant work of the Regional Faunal-Environmental Surveillance Unit, which between 2020 and 2021 removed about 1800 specimens - explains vice president Piana -.
It is specially trained hunters according to the indications of ISPRA and the Region, who will be able to work alongside and under the coordination of public security agents and auxiliaries, to implement the interventions of wildlife control required by law. Among the subjects covered by the recognized training courses I recall ecology, biology, the management of wild animal populations, techniques and methods of control. Hunters in possession of the indicated requirements, will report their availability to the Territorial Areas of Hunting and to the Alpine Districts, who will draw up a special list, from which they can be called rotary to assist the Regional Supervisory Unit.
In involving hunters, however, priority will be given to the need to ensure the effectiveness and timeliness of interventions. Another innovation, introduced with the new rules, concerns the extension of the possibilities for the owner or tenant of an agricultural property to have recourse to the institute of self-defense. The measures introduced with this provision respond to a need widely felt by the agricultural world of our region ”.
