Coldiretti Liguria, in light of the emergency situation linked to the spread of African swine fever, and the identification of an infected area already comprising 36 Ligurian municipalities, expressed to the Liguria Region the strong concern, however already expressed several times in the past months, regarding the activities and the future of agricultural holdings located in the delimited territories, both for traditional agricultural activities and for those related to accommodation and outdoor activities. The social and health risks linked to the now uncontrolled number of wild boars free to roam the fields and cities causing more and more accidents, is a subject to which we have always drawn attention, to which, for too long, the right attention has not been paid and for which adequate containment measures have never been taken.
In light of recent events, which no one hoped for but for which we are certainly not surprised as a more than predictable situation, we ask the Region not only that adequate and urgent containment measures are taken to ensure that the limits of the infected area do not have to be further widened, but also that adequate protection measures are put in place for the companies that are victims of the mismanagement of the situation, who are now living a kind of double lockdown with the risk of incalculable economic and image damage.
"It is essential to immediately adopt extraordinary economic measures in the form of direct relief for all agricultural companies involved, whatever their production address is, and for the accommodation activities that are located within the infected area and that carry out essential activities on our territory. - declared Gianluca Boeri President Coldiretti Liguria and Bruno Rivarossa Confederal Delegate - CLet me suggest a form of help on the style of Measure 21, already used for the lack of income from Covid-19, in such a way as to be able to immediately implement a first concrete intervention to ensure the business continuity, obviously asking the Region for a precise and strong economic allocation, given the great needs.
We also ask you to evaluate the suspension of taxes for companies located in the municipalities involved and to work for suspension of mortgage payments. Our companies have already suffered two years from all the closures and limitations imposed by the pandemic but despite this they have never stopped, we will not accept in any way that they must also suffer this situation caused by those who have never really taken the right responsibilities towards a predicted risk"(Source: Coldiretti).
