The “Monte Pozzoni Trophy” is back, the 2012 edition of the mountain dog event that began yesterday April 15 and will continue for two more stages.
The "Monte Pozzoni Trophy" returns to Norcia and Cascia, a dog trial without killing that takes its name from the dog training area (ZAC) that hosts the event, with the 2012 edition full of emotions for lovers of standing dog and breeds British.
Like last year, the 2012 trophy will be divided into three stages, on three different Sundays: the first took place yesterday, April 15, and the next on June 24 and July 22. In addition to the main game that is the gray partridge, among the wild animals considered as valid points were also included quail, which from May to August populates the land of the dog training area in good numbers, the woodcock, little more than a chimera in mid-April and the croccolone, whisk and snipe, occasional but not impossible appearances during the summer. In any case, all real and difficult wild.
The first appointment took place yesterday, Sunday 15 April, on the Civita di Cascia pass managed by the Federcaccia di Cascia and Norcia sections, it immediately presented itself with important numbers: 43 registered dogs (compared to 34 last year) and eight auxiliaries in the standings at the end of the day of practice.
The test, dedicated to mountain hunters, follows the formula of "partridge hunting on natural game", thanks to the large number of pairs already present in the area and to a targeted introduction, articulated several times during the days preceding the event. The rounds will take place in pairs and the hunting aptitudes for hunting partridge in the mountains will be evaluated, as well as the typicality and adherence to the breed standards of the subjects presented. Reasonably tolerated the incorrectness in the whisk. The use of the bell and the beeper at standstill is allowed.
A day, that of Sunday 15 April, which turned out to be longer than expected, with adverse weather conditions that seriously questioned the performance of the test. Only around 10.30, when the fog cleared allowing the judges to observe the work of the dogs, was it possible to dissolve the first pairs of auxiliaries.
The judges Pietro Miluzzi of Città Ducale and Paolo Cioli of Visso were able to observe some magnificent subjects, all more than worthy representatives of the English Pointer and Setter breeds, endowed with great venation, courage and spirit of sacrifice. In addition to the best local conductors, there are also subjects from Marche and Lazio. The appointment is now expected for the next stages in June and July.
For each stage, points in the standings, battery and race prizes are up for grabs. At the end of the third stage, the final classification will award a very rich prize pool: 800 euros of vouchers for hunting clothing items, as well as three badges for the next training season in the “Monte Pozzoni” ZAC.
In addition, for each day there will be culinary prizes typical of Valnerina for the best 6 dogs (the first 3 of each battery) and for the two best breed representatives (pointer and setter). Any other awards will be assigned according to availability. All without forgetting the usual, abundant picnic at the end of each test day.
In short, the “Monte Pozzoni” trophy, organized by the municipal sections of the Federcaccia di Cascia and Norcia, is announced again this year as a real party for all setters, pointers and their two-legged friends.
