Economic aid
Accepting the request made by the Lombardy Region, the minister Francesco Lollobrigida signed the decree to extend economic aid for the indirect damage caused by the ASF-African swine fever. “By extending the effects of the previous Decree on PSA to events that occurred after 31 July 2023 – comments the councilor for Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Alessandro Beduschi – the Government also includes the province of Pavia, where due to the health measures of prevention, farmers have suffered a block on the movement of animals and meat, which has inevitably affected, penalizing them, also the operators of slaughterhouses and processing".
Lack of support
With the act signed by the Minister, the affected companies will be able to submit a request for compensation within the first ten days of March. “I thank – continues the councilor – Minister Lollobrigida and Undersecretary Giacomo La Pietra, who have never failed to provide their support during these difficult months. Working every day with us to preserve Lombardy's farms, which with 5 million animals represent the heart of the national pig supply chain".
Biosecurity measures
“For a gradual return to normality – concludes Alessandro Beduschi – it is necessary to continue to implement all prevention measures against Swine Fever. Politics plays its part, but my appeal goes to the entire supply chain to continue to scrupulously respect biosafety measures. Furthermore, any form of speculative phenomenon towards breeders should be avoided. Pork meat from the Pavese area is absolutely safe and can also be used in production with greater added value, such as raw ham" (source: Lombardy Region).
