Two days ago the Councilor for Agricultural Policies of the Abruzzo region, Dino Pepe, spoke during a conference dedicated to the wild boar emergency and organized byAVAS (Association of Wild Animal Victims). Pepe has renewed once again to the ministers of Agriculture, Maurizio Martina, and of the Environment, Gian Luca Galletti, the request to expand the hunted wild boar hunting.
The hunting activity should last from September to January, while today this levy extends only for three months of the year. The commissioner also wanted to recall the results achieved thanks to the containment of wild boars since last spring to protect agricultural fields. 1875 animals were culled, half of which only in the Chieti area (983 heads to be precise).
The numbers have been defined comforting, but not complete and decisive. Furthermore, the growth trend of compensation claims in Abruzzo decreased in 2017, with a quantifiable decline at the regional level in 36 percentage points. Finally, Pepe underlined that boar is a problem for everyone, therefore all entities must be involved, first of all the Territorial Areas of Hunting, parks, municipalities and agricultural associations.
