The Regional Council of the Campania approved the "Wild boar management and control plan", containing the methods of ordinary management and extraordinary control of the species on the entire regional territory with the exception of the Entity National Park of Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni. "This Plan is a fundamental piece of the more complex strategy of this Administration which, acknowledging the requests of the institutional and economic actors, aims to address and resolve the wild boar emergency on the entire regional territory“, Declares Franco Alfieri, head of the secretariat of the president of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca.
“The goal - adds Alfieri - is contain the increase in populations of this species which, in recent years, has caused very serious damage to agricultural crops, as well as negatively affecting the reproductive increases of various fauna species relevant for the conservation of the ecosystem ". The Plan, coordinated by Criuv (Regional reference center for veterinary urban hygiene) and elaborated by the working group of the “Federico II” University of Naples, it was approved by Ispra and received a favorable opinion from the Via della Regione Office.
A series of measures are envisaged (sampling in selection, capturing and turning) aimed at ensuring optimal management of the species according to the environmental characteristics and anthropogenic activities in the various areas. The Plan is divided into two parts: ordinary management (scheduled hunting areas; sampling in suitable areas through the hunt) and extraordinary control (non-suitable areas, areas controlled by selective sampling, turn and / or catches). From a territorial point of view, management is differentiated in: suitable areas; selection hunting areas; controlled (or medium-sized) areas; non-suitable areas. The plan will be applied by the territorial hunting areas, by the managing bodies of the protected areas and by the regional wildlife institutes.
