Luca Braia, Councilor for Agricultural and Forestry Policies of the Basilicata region, specified some aspects relating to the official data released in the last few hours on wild boars. Braia recalled how control and hunting are different from selection hunting, even if there is often confusion. THE wild animals killed in the Lucanian territory in 2017 thanks to hunting and control activities are about 10mila, while it is wrong to bring the quota of ungulates collected to 2500, as reported by Coldiretti and UGL.
The official data was provided yesterday morning by five Territorial Areas of Hunting, while the number published by the same Department has not been interpreted correctly as regards the selective culling and control plan for the period 2018-2020. The 10 thousand wild boars of last year are divided in this way: about 9160 against 7801 in 2016.
The commissioner then recalled the application of the various methodologies allowed by the law in addition to the three months foreseen by the hunting calendar. In the other nine months it will be possible to kill the wild boars, in fact, with control activities and selection hunting, both in the suitable and in the non-suitable areas, with stalking and shooting. Tomorrow, Wednesday 15 March 2018, there will be a meeting with trade associations in order to make further details public.
