Andrea Zanoni, regional councilor of Veneto (Democratic Party), intervened to comment on the response of the Councilor for Agriculture, Joseph Pan, to the question of last August on some road signs full of bullet holes. According to Zanoni, the number of armed people in the Veneto region continues to be excessive, with the risks that would be guilty underestimated.
The councilor spoke of the 45 thousand hunters circulating in the countryside and of the another 21 thousand (almost 21400 to be precise) authorized to shoot even at night and outside the hunting season. For Zanoni it is a "Army borne by taxpayers": according to him, 350 thousand euros were spent on otters in two years, a situation identical to that of wild boar. The councilor then recalled the hunters who can kill foxes by way of derogation, dividing the numbers according to the provinces. The first ever is Vicenaa with 8148 subjects, followed by Verona and Treviso.
The accusations are very precise, as the exponent of the PD believes that the Regional Council wanted to satisfy one small minority who wants to shoot beyond the hunting season. Other attacks in his response involved hunting the fox, the only predator that would be able to limit the nutria, the bloody practices for wild boars and the excessive number of accidents.
