As disclosed by Tiziano Terzi, number one of the Safari Club International Italian Chapter, an association dedicated to the conservation of nature and the defense of hunting, has made official a very important news from the hunting point of view. In 2006, several were captured IBEX in the area of Tarvisio (province of Udine), to be then released on the Marmolada mountains. The species present in this massif was in danger of extinction after contracting the sarcoptic mange, the parasitic dermatological pathology which is characterized by its notable contagiousness.
In the Club magazine you can see one of these specimens with a lot of radio collar: thanks to the reintroduction project, the population of these animals has significantly increased and today there is no longer any danger. Moreover, the initiative was financed 100% by the association led by third parties. The president's hope is that in the future another wildlife project of equal importance can be implemented.
The message ended with the wish of a 2018 full of satisfactions and splendid hunts. The Ibex population of the Marmolada was the most numerous of all the Eastern Alps, a record maintained up to thirteen years ago: the censuses have exceeded 500 leaders until 2004, then the disease and the harsh climate started the meltdown which was finally put to a halt.
