38 thefts and the thirty-ninth tragically foiled. A 57-year-old tire dealer shot a 29-year-old Moldovan national who was trying to rob his workshop at dawn in the province of Arezzo: the foreigner was attempting the theft after having broken through a window and the shots fired by the 57-year-old resulted in the death of the criminal.
Now the tire dealer is under investigation for excess of self-defense and the affair sparked again the debate on the subject. The man said he was awakened while sleeping in the workshop, a precaution made necessary by the previous 38 that had exasperated him. He would then aim for the legs of the Moldovan, centering the victim's femoral artery.
The Minister of the Interior, Matteo Salvini, commented on the story on social media: "After the Salvini Decree, the new law on Legitimate Defense will arrive in Parliament. I am with those who defend themselves, violently entering someone else's house or shop, day or night, legitimizes the attacked person to defend himself and his family. My solidarity with the Tuscan trader, robbed 38 times in a few months: count on us!". The debate will continue in the coming days and certainly with greater intensity.
