Yes the PSA webinar (African Swine Fever), organized by CCT which saw the participation of about fifty leaders of the Confederate Associations representing the entire Tuscan territory. This initiative is strongly desired to inform the whole social body of a "question" which is not distant, but rather represents a current problem, to be addressed promptly and resolutely. The works of the were introduced by Marco Salvadori, Regional President of Federcaccia Toscana, who highlighted the need to intervene in the face of the emergency, without waiting for "the worst" to arrive and catch us unprepared. Finally emphasizing how also the Regional Institutions they must carefully govern the situation, avoiding that local restrictive measures are taken, inherent exclusively to hunting and related activities without taking into account the general context.
The floor then passed to the National President Federcaccia Massimo Buconi, who in his speech confirmed the commitment of the Association at a national level, where hundreds of volunteers have supported the regional emergency teams, in the search and recovery of further infected animals. "Hunters work is valuable work made available to the whole community "continued Buconi, then closing with an explicit reference to how volunteering is indeed an indispensable resource in the phases of prevention of the spread of the epidemic, but also of how one cannot exclusively rely on it in real emergency management.
Dr. Riccardo Burresi (Regional Vice-Presidency Secretariat Office), began his speech by expressing the position of opposition of the Institutions to the implementation of local measures not preparatory to a concerted general management of the problem. "The Region has for some time been informing and trying to involve all the interested world" continued Burresi, not failing to remember how hunted hunting, which this year in Tuscany led to the killing of 55.750 wild boars, is a precious resource in the emergency prevention phases; and that the hunting sector is currently the only one that has responded to the Institutions' call for an effective collaboration in order to prevent future consequences, which also from an economic point of view, could be very serious for our Region.
“We must work together to avoid IL LOCK DOWN OF THE WOOD”He then asserted at the end of his speech. The last of the speakers before the conclusions was Dr. Alessio Capecci, (Health Department of the Tuscany Region), who presented, using some slides, a detailed overview of the general national and regional situation. "I must applaud the Association for the scientific approach to the emergency situation" Capecci began, "We must reason not on the basis of the fact "IF" the emergency will arrive, but rather "WHEN" it will arrive"; highlighting how the knowledge of the territory of the hunters is a fundamental element in the phases of prevention and management of the contagion, especially given the extreme aggressiveness of the PSA "Genotype 2" that we find ourselves contrasting.
He also informed that the laboratories of the Region are analyzing about every day 4 wild boar carcasses and how the timely identification of the infected remains is the only element available to circumscribe the territories and avoid the spread of the virus. Specifying how up to now the architectural barriers represented by the highways have been fundamental in limiting the spread of the epizootic. “We have to separate the wild boar populations and not exterminate them ”, continued Capecci, specifying how to act promptly in this sense, also by creating infrastructures such as fences where it is deemed necessary, it is essential.
"We must stay in front of the disease and not behind ..." Capecci finally concluded. To sum up at the end of the evening was the Regional Secretary of the CCT Dr. Mark Romagnoli, who after thanking all the participants, and especially the two speakers, expressed satisfaction for the interventions rich in content and ideas for implementation. "Good comparison but now we have to move on to the facts", declared Romagnoli, who following the cue given by Dr. Capecci declared how the establishment of a fund for the implementation of preventive works could be a first important weapon to counter a drift that, once started, could be difficult to stem. "As always as hunters we make our experience and knowledge available to the community", the closure of the forest must be averted not only for hunting and for those related to it, but to preserve the multiple economic productive realities of our Territory.
