A new proposal to solve a problem that now seems to have no solution: Andrea Bassi, deputy leader of the Tosi List in Veneto region has deposited a written question to the Council in which it is suggested that the antifecondatives for contain the number of otters in the territory. According to Bassi, in fact, the abatement can be of little use due to the impossible feasibility in certain areas after that new laws have been published. As a result, this preventive veterinary medicine could become the right alternative feed capable of blocking the fertilization of rodents they should be able to limit their proliferation.
The regional councilor also recalled how in other Italian municipalities feed of this type has resolved the pigeon emergency that ruin monuments and palaces, putting sanitation conditions at risk, so even with the otters the same could happen. Furthermore, the antifecondatives are not bloody and limit the demographic pressure in the colonies. The otters are practically out of control in Veneto and have been defined by Bassi a "loose cannon" due to their habit of living in streams and digging burrows in embankments.
The containment plans and eradications have not achieved the desired results and in some cases they have even been stuck waiting for a full review: last December a regulation of Environmental Related to the Stability Law has changed the rules and otters are considered an integral part of Article 19 of the Hunting Law, which concerns the control of wildlife. The Italian municipalities can no longer intervene on their management e abatement plans have become one of the competences of the Region: the plans, however, can only be prepared by the hunting guards who depend on the provinces, a real confusion.
It has now come to arm wrestling between municipalities and environmentalists. The Giunta has started the process for adopting a resolution that is intended to dictate rules to be implemented immediately to eradicate the otters: a containment of this type, however, is surrounded by a thousand unknowns according to Bassi, especially taking into account the considerable costs for maintenance and safety from the hydraulic point of view. The deputy leader of the Tosi List intends to know whether the Veneto wants to take action or not with the reference bodies for preventive veterinary medicine and adopt the feeds we are talking about. Now we are waiting for answers and a plan that is truly shared by all.
