An alarming situation
The wild boar emergency closely concerns the city of Fiuggi, in the province of Frosinone, to the point that the mayor has issued a special ordinance. Here is what can be read: “The safety of citizens is a primary objective of the Municipal Administration. Wild boars have been reported in the wild in the inhabited center of the Municipality of Fiuggi in the following streets and/or areas: Via Vallicelle, Circonvallazione Macchiadoro, Viale Escrivà, Via Le Cese, Via Nazzari, Piazzale Matilde Serao, Via Prenestina Antica towards Acuto, Via Prenestina (ex Porfina), Via San Nicola, Via del Cerreto, locality of the Cappuccini and via Valle Molella".
The areas at risk
"For everything set out in the narrative, which is understood to be fully referred to, for health reasons and for public safety, order:
1. The control, by the Police Forces, of wild boars in the urban areas indicated below and in the immediately adjacent ones: Via Vallicelle, Circonvallazione Macchiadoro, Viale Escrivà, Via Le Cese, Via Nazzari, Piazzale Matilde Serao, Via Prenestina Antica direction Acuto, Via Prenestina (formerly Porfina), Via San Nicola, Via del Cerreto, the locality of the Cappuccini and via Valle Molella.
2. The ban on anyone supplying food and food waste to wild animals, especially to ungulates belonging to the species "Sus scrofa", common name
"boar"; (pursuant to article 7, c 2 of Law n.221/2017).
3. To all inhabitants and owners of land facing the streets of the Municipality of Fiuggi, to keep the land clean and clear of weeds, in order to prevent the creation of environmental conditions favorable to the penetration and acclimatization of wild boars;
4. The safety and frequent cleaning of bins and/or collection points
of garbage of domestic origin or deriving from public catering activities in urban areas and along the streets".
Terms and other details
“This Ordinance has immediate effect, starting from the posting on the Register
Online Pretorio of the Municipality of Fiuggi for a period of 180 (one hundred and eighty) days. If the animals are slaughtered (all 50 heads of animals belonging to the group, which constitutes a source of danger) this ordinance will cease to be effective even before the deadline indicated, i.e. 15 August 2023" (source: Municipality of Fiuggi ).
