One of the latest measures adopted by Marche region is really innovative for the wild boar hunting. We are talking about the approval of the anticipated hunting calendar as regards the selective withdrawal of these animals, a tool considered very useful for reducing the damage caused by ungulates to agricultural crops. The anticipation concerns the date of 22 April 2018 as the first day of hunting, an important change compared to past years.
As explained by Moreno Pieroni, regional councilor for hunting, it was decided to meet the demands of the agricultural world, trying to contain the damage caused by wild animals with a hunt in a different selective form, in time, compared to previous seasons. The only suspension will be that of the opening period of ordinary hunting, that is to say the next September 30th, moreover, there will be the exclusive involvement of qualified people in order to reduce the total numbers.
The choice also took into account the density of the wild boar population and environmental conditions. During the 2018-2019 Marche season, however, this hunt will remain suspended in the A conservation zones and in the B control zones. The selective withdrawal will take place only five days a week, to be precise, from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset, without prejudice to the hunting silence (Tuesday and Friday according to regional regulation number 3 of 2012).
