Wild Fauna: Trento, once again a bear attacked a man who was walking with his dog in Pozzo degli Spini; the man was hospitalized for serious injuries.
After the controversial issue of the Bear Daniza, two other incidents, a few days apart from each other and involving a bear, reignite the controversy over the reintroduction of bears in the Alps. The last one yesterday afternoon, a a man who was taking a walk with his dog in a pasture on the slopes of Monte Bondone was attacked by a bear, sustaining serious injuries that required hospitalization at the Santa Chiara Hospital in Trento. All this took place in Pozzo degli Spini in Cadine, a fraction of Trento a few kilometers from the city center, the protagonist is a man residing in the hamlet who had decided to take a walk with his dog when he had an unpleasant encounter. ; suddenly a bear came out of the woods and rushed at him. The man was unable to escape and after the first attack he tried to defend himself from the attack of the bear by engaging in a real fight with the animal until the latter gave up and fled making him lose his tracks in the woods ; the man following repeated attacks by the bear, paws and bites, reported deep cuts and scratches to the arm, abdomen and head.
The first to rescue the injured and raise the alarm was a cyclist who passed in the area shortly after; An ambulance of 118 arrived on the spot and subsequently, considering the serious conditions of the victim, the man was transported by helicopter to the emergency room of the Santa Chiara hospital. The men of the Forestry and Provincial Police investigate the matter who first reconstructed the dynamics of the incident based on the declarations of the victim and then carried out an inspection in the area in search of elements and traces of the bear, also with the help of the dogs.
This is the second accident recorded in Trentino in a few days; In fact, a few days ago there was news of a young man who in the Zambana Vecchia area, in the Adige valley, after being attacked by a bear with a paw, had managed to escape while suffering injuries such as to require about ten stitches . The President of the Province, Ugo Rossi, spoke about the case with the Minister of the Environment, Gian Luca Galletti and they agreed on a videoconference summit on the issue, with the participation of Ispra, to decide the measures to be taken to stem the phenomenon and decisions regarding the fate of a potentially dangerous animal.
The director of the Forestry Department, Romano Masè, made it known that after a couple of hours from the attack and in the following morning, patrol operations began in the area to look for traces of the specimen and try to understand if it is the same bear. who attacked the young man in the woods of Zambana. “Before any decision - said Masè - we need to make technical assessments. We are trying to reconstruct what happened ”. Mansè was not unbalanced on the causes of the attack nor on the possible measures to be taken in case the Daniza question is repeated, which still weighs on the shoulders of the provincial authorities.
