Confagricoltura spoke about the recent meeting with theISPRA on the monitoring and management of wildlife. Here is the text of the press release from the agricultural association. The uncontrolled presence of wild animals has altered the environment in which we live (endangering native animal and plant species) and creates significant and unsustainable damage to agricultural activity, as well as being the main cause of health emergencies for the population and for reared pets, for public safety in airports, roads and river embankments.
A situation of which not everyone has fully understood the gravity. This emergency involving the whole national territory was the subject of the meeting between Confagricoltura and Ispra (Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research). The Institute has important tasks of monitoring the state of the environment but also of research, for this reason Confagricoltura wanted to indicate a path for the management of wildlife that is truly respectful of the productive vocation of the territories and of biodiversity. In the opinion of Confagricoltura, a profound rewriting of the law 157/92 on hunting now 25 years old can no longer be postponed, as it is necessary to make existing tools work more effectively.
Starting with the inter-ministerial decree on damage caused by protected fauna o living in protected areas which, more than seven months after approval by the State Regions Conference, has not yet been applied and would have represented, albeit partially, a first signal of attention to difficulties of the agricultural world. The Containment Plans are also a tool of immediate application, to be improved and adapted to new needs, allowing the adequately trained figures of the assistants to participate in their implementation. The agricultural world is a candidate for this role and to train them, aware of the fact that the presence of companies represents the most valid barrier to the abandonment and instability of the territory.
