Pasquale Salvemini of the WWF Puglia strongly criticized the hunting calendar 2016-2017 just approved for the southern region. According to Salvemini, the decision to increase hunting days during the next month of October will certainly provoke a massacre of quails and larks, for what has been defined as a "shameful management of the bird heritage".
For the environmental association, moreover, the Emilian Council was judged to be insensitive to the subject, due to its tendency to "yield to the pressure of hunting associations". As recalled by the Apulian section of the WWF, the hunting calendar will officially begin the next September 18 and will end on 29 January 2017. There will be three fixed days, namely Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, with the possibility of derogation from 3 to 20 October, a period in which the three hunting days can be chosen between Monday, Wednesday, Thursday , Saturday and Sunday.
Furthermore, hunters from outside the region will have the opportunity to come and hunt in Puglia from Sunday 2nd October until 31st December. It will be forbidden to take hunting in the form of a rake and starting from the minimum number of two hunters. Among the other provisions mentioned is that according to which the barrels made of resin or plastic and removed every day to hunt waterfowl, they are considered temporary stalking and do not need any type of authorization.
