The 7th edition of the Schizzola Valley Cherry Festival will take place on Sunday 2015 June XNUMX in Schizzola - Borgo Priolo (PV).
The Oltre la Valle Cultural Association, with the patronage of the Municipality of Borgo Priolo and the Centropadana Cooperative Credit Bank, is pleased to present the XVII Cherry Festival of the Schizzola Valley. Sunday 7th June 2015.
To the south of the Po Valley, the first offshoots of the Northern Apennines preserve a myriad of small valleys mostly cultivated with vineyards. Among these, the Schizzola Valley stands out for its fruit vocation. It is difficult to arrive by chance in the Schizzola Valley, squeezed as it is between the Valle Coppa to the east, the hills of Fortunago to the south and those of Rocca Susella to the west, but the traveler who is lucky enough to end up here finds himself in a uncontaminated territory, where the few sparsely inhabited hamlets are lost in the woods, vineyards and orchards of small farms still dedicated to the cultivation of apples, pears, plums, cherries and peaches.
The first editions of the Cherry Festival were organized in the 70s, to enhance the local products of the Valley by hinging on the delicious fruit that was marketed at the most important fruit and vegetable markets and at the Sperlari of Cremona for the production of mustards. Over time, however, the vineyards began to partially supplant traditional cultures. The recovery of this festival is due to the Cultural Association Oltre la Valle, which took over its management in 2013. Sponsored by the Municipality of Borgo Priolo and the Centropadana Cooperative Credit Bank, the Cherry Festival of the Schizzola Valley offers a day to enhance tradition, culture and local products.
In the courtyards of the Oltrepadano center, in collaboration with the Oltre la Valle producers and local artisans, zero kilometer agricultural markets are set up where you can buy cherries and seasonal fruit from the valley and other typical products. Created in collaboration with the Enocuriosi Association and FISAR Pavia, the taste workshops allow you to rediscover an ancient local specialty, the "brasadé di Staghiglione", the goat cheeses of a small local dairy and the wines of the valley, while the companies Agricolture offer lessons in fruit growing and horticulture. Throughout the day it will be possible to taste the cherry risotto proposed by the Oltre la Valle Association and the cured meats of a local producer.
The presentation of the book "Beyond the paths - Journey on the ridges of the Four Provinces", by Giovanni Portinari - Primula Editore - will kick off a round table on the enhancement of the Oltrepadana paths. "Beyond the trails" is not a simple guide, albeit complete and equipped with a very detailed map, but a real photograph of the Oltrepò Pavese, with its natural and artistic beauties and, above all, with an intricate and beautiful network of paths, which can be traveled on foot or by mountain bike or on horseback. To complete the day, the photographic exhibition "Quaderni d'Oltrepò", curated by Eugenio Marchesi, an exhibition of historic cars and the performances of the historical flag-wavers of the "Compagnia del Drago" of Mortara, while the taverns of the Valley will offer dishes full of Oltrepadana tradition.
