The Living Nativity of Corchiano, in the province of Viterbo, returns for the 43rd edition on 25, 26 and 30 December 2012 and on 1 and 6 January 2013. The commitment to respect for tradition.
The aspect that characterizes the Living Nativity of Corchiano is its theatricality. From its inception until today we have tried to keep the system of the event unchanged. The spectator, something almost unique in Italy, attends a real theatrical show focused on the theme of the Holy Nativity, of which the most salient moments are retraced. From the grandstand, properly installed, it is possible to enjoy a privileged and unique view. The show is enriched by numerous stage effects and the soundtrack that accompanies the entire performance of the show curated by the Oscar winner Nicola Piovani and narrated by Gigi Proietti.
The Living Nativity of Corchiano, a long history The "Living Nativity" was born on Christmas 1970 by a group of young Corchianesi and was represented for the first time in the ancient village, in Piazza Garibaldi called Piazza "Padella". The success of the initiative was extraordinary and after only three years "Piazza Padella" was no longer able to contain all the public who flocked to the performances and so the Living Nativity was moved to a larger place, under Via "Portavecchia" where the performances lasted until 1.
Today that magical place full of memories is an integral part of the "Natural Monument of the Gorges" as well as the entrance to the municipal theater. For six years, the Living Nativity scene has been held in a new location, in the splendid scenery of the "Sambuco - Natural Monument of the Gorges" which is accessed via an imposing Etruscan road cut dug into the tuff.
The setting up and promotion of the event are taken care of by the members of the Pro-Loco, also supported by other willing citizens. The actors are chosen from among the young people of the town and the most coveted roles are naturally those of the Madonna and St. Joseph; but also other characters are particularly sought after: the Angels, the Magi and above all the Roman soldiers for their beautiful uniforms and the majesty in breaking into the scene at a gallop of horses.
Many boys in the role of shepherds and herdsmen look after the numerous animals that take part in the representation: cows, sheep and not least the donkeys of the Parco delle Forre.
