Success of the blues at the 43rd European Sporting Championship
After the races, the sun has finally returned to Russia and three pink stars shine in the blue sky: Carla Flammini, Daniela Prati and Katia Vaghi.
The curtain falls on the 2010 Sporting European Championships and the gold seal of the Italian girls who have completed a historic feat in St.Petersburg is stamped on it, managing to put the medal around their necks for the first time. gold for teams in the "Lady" category, inflicting four plates of detachment to the very strong French colleagues and 53 to the hosts.
During these ten years of international activity, during which the athletes of the federation have posted 19 gold, 18 silver and 29 bronze medals in Italy, it is the first time ever that the women's team has managed to conquer the highest step, composing a total score of 455 targets: 159 Carla, 150 Katia and 146 Daniela. An exciting success, which could have been even more rounded if the individual bronze medal had not escaped Carletta thanks to two enormous refereeing “oversights” that favored the Latvian Kirenska, who set herself on the Azzurra for only one dish.
However, the great success of our shooters was worthily crowned by three silver medals that shine around the necks of the members of the Junior Team: Michael Spada (172) Renato Vitelli (171) and Andrea Ghiselli (153); that of the veterans Claudio Bortot (172) Giovanni Zamboni (168), and Enzo Gibellini (159); and the Superveterans Ottorino Rovetta (153) Paolo Amato (152) and Franco Lucchini (134).
On an individual level, the young Miki Spada was unable to climb the lowest step for only seven targets; Veteran Bortot, on the other hand, missed the bronze for only two plates while Rovetta and Amato did not return to the barrage for third place for 1 and 2 targets, respectively.
Only 5th, on the other hand, the team of Seniors, which this time was composed of Ivan Brussolo, Fabio Chiarapini, Enrico De Tomasi and Maurizio Gronchi and which is now three years away from international podiums, monopolized by the usual French and English.
On the thread of 192 targets (this says a lot about the difficulties of the competition) the title of European Champion went to Christophe Auvret who won the play-off against the British Ben Husthwait who in turn relegated George Digweed to third place, even if for only one disc of difference.
"After this gold and the three silvers - declared the tired and excited President Felice Buglione - the interest of Sporting is now totally transferred to the next World Championships that will take place in Laterina from 15 to 18 July 2010 and for which the Federation is working with the utmost commitment. In this important international event about 1200 shooters from all over the planet will compete and our athletes will once again have the opportunity to increase their already considerable medal table, while Fidasc can only confirm the great technical, sporting and organizational prestige achieved in the international forum, celebrating its tenth birthday in the best possible way ”.
