At the end of the hunting season, the Hunters set off to protect nature and the environment from those who write in the countryside, the mountains and rivers, abandoning enormous quantities of waste of all kinds in these places. With this objective the APS Terra dei Rotensi Association together with Sodalis CVS Salerno, with the patronage of Municipality of Mercato San Severino (Sa) and the collaboration of Federcaccia Salerno, have organized two days of ecotrekking for 6 and 13 March: “Walk, listen, collect”.
A walk in the mountains which, in addition to raising awareness of the problem of waste left in places where nature should be respected, it has actively involved civil society both to the use of these beautiful places but also to the collection of everything that is abandoned in those territories. They were two wonderful days, full of friendship and memories, a large group of hunters together with mountain lovers they engaged in heroic labors for the recovery of all kinds of waste, from simple plastic bottles, to televisions, to car tires, mattresses and finally to refrigerators and metal drums.
Yes, unfortunately this is the reality of many places close to our inhabited centers and this was the spark that moved friends Michele Scafuro and Emiddio Salvati promoters of this initiative. Their commitment meant that a group of Hunters from some local beltlai teams, assisted by many friends who are passionate about the mountains, became an active part of the event by collaborating in the recovery of about twenty-five quintals of waste. The words of Dr. Antonio Somma, Mayor of Mercato San Severino, intervened to greet the participants, publicly attributed to hunters the role of true sentinels of the environment in identifying the problems that plague the rural world.
And it is with these activities that we consciously master the role that has been attributed to us. Actively participating in initiatives like this is fundamental for our role in the civil world. The presence of the provincial president of Federcaccia Salerno, Luigi Spera and some hunting guards of his association, gave the two days a sign of inseparable link between the ars venandi and nature (source: Hunting Federation).
