"Simpler methods can outperform more sophisticated ones when assessing bird migration starting dates“: This is the title of new study published in the prestigious journal of scientific ornithology "Journal of Ornitology". The result of the research is that the method of flight distance, corrected with management, appears to be the most suitable, while more sophisticated methods can produce significant differences, which in the case ofteal they would postpone it for up to a month the migration start date.
The authors concluded that the choice of the distance threshold with the direction is the least error prone method, also to distinguish non-migratory movements, due to power needs or due to climatic causes. This work therefore confirms that the first ten days of February, identified as the beginning of the pre-nuptial migration in the proposals Hunting Federation for KCs, it is supported by the data collected and by this study.
