The Province of Savona anticipates the wild boar hunt by 15 days in order to limit the numerous damages caused by wild boars to crops.
Yesterday morning the Provincial Council of Savona with its resolution brought forward by 15 days the start of the hunting season for the collection of wild boar, setting the opening for Sunday 16 September 2012.
The provincial councilor for hunting, Paolo Ripamonti, announced “The Province of Savona has obtained the green light to bring forward the start of the wild boar hunting season by fifteen days. The variation is allowed to the Provinces by article 18 paragraph 2 of law 157 ".
Continuing Ripamonti explained, "The advance was deemed necessary due to a series of factors, in particular I am referring to the numerous damage caused by ungulates to specialized crops of greater economic value, along the coast and at medium altitude, which would result particularly penalized by the start of hunting in October ".
The councilor for hunting then stated, "A further consideration was made in light of the reports that have seen the Savona provincial police employed in various interventions at the request of citizens alarmed by the presence of these animals near roads, houses and even in urban centers ".
Finally Ripamonti concluded, "I am satisfied that our positions, regarding the need for early opening, have been acknowledged by the Liguria Region during the meeting that took place a few days ago".
