Also in the province of Genoa the wild boar hunt is scheduled to open on Sunday 16 September; 11.000 heads to be killed. Fossati: "More and more damage, it is essential to reduce the number".
Hunting begins tomorrow in the province of Genoa where 11.000 wild boars are expected to be killed, of which 5.700 in the area between the west and the Genoese valleys, and 5.300 in the eastern area. The increase in the number of wild boar heads to be slaughtered was set by the Technical Hunting Wildlife Committee under the coordination of the Province of Genoa with the participation of representatives of the Hunting, Agricultural, Environmentalist Associations, the University and the State Forestry Corps.
The Extraordinary Commissioner of the Province of Genoa explained on the matter, "The number of huntable animals has been increased because the increasingly heavy damages and requests for interventions from the agricultural world are now countless and a more specific and consistent collection of wild boars has precisely the objective of safeguarding, as far as possible, the agricultural activities of the territory ".
Referring to the appeal concerning the Hunting Calendar presented by the environmentalists, Fossati said "I have the utmost respect for the legitimate positions and beliefs of all but I sincerely hope that the appeal does not prejudice the activity of reduction and control of wild boars, absolutely essential for the their number has grown dramatically ”.
Finally Fossati concludes by recalling to common sense all those who “in spite of all the prohibitions continue to feed large ungulates near the houses, increasingly frequent also in the urban areas of the east from Rapallo to Chiavari, from Lavagna to Sestri Levante. For this reason, in addition to hunting, to reduce the number, it is necessary to intensify the awareness of citizens so that they absolutely avoid bringing food to wild boars, animals that are and remain wild and close to homes are an unpredictable source of danger for the inhabitants and also endanger the traffic and road safety ".
