Hunting: Umbria, the regional council approves the definitive text of the 2013-14 Hunting Calendar; Councilor Cecchini, "new season in compliance with the rules".
Pre-opening on September 1st, exclusively from stalking, to the teal, garganey, mallard, dove, blackbird, wood pigeon, hooded crow, jay and magpie, and general opening to all other species on September 15th, but not to wild boar for which the hunting activity will start on October 3, even if the provincial administrations can postpone that date. This is what the Hunting calendar for the 2013-2014 season, approved by the regional council on the proposal of the councilor for hunting Fernanda Cecchini.
The Calendar, on which the expected opinions of Ispra and the third competent Commission of the Regional Council have already been expressed, also provides for the early closure of the pheasant female hunt on November 30, to safeguard the reproduction of the species, while hare hunting is possible from September 15 to December 15. The selection hunt for fallow deer, roe deer, red deer and mouflon will instead go from June 16 to July 14, from August 18 to October 2 and from January 1 to March 15, 2014. "The new calendar - said Cecchini - is the result of a wide participation which, starting from public assemblies throughout the Umbrian territory, then found its own advanced synthesis in the institutionally appointed body, the Wildlife Hunting Council in which the representatives of the hunting, agricultural and environmentalist associations of the "Atc" sit (Territorial hunting areas) and institutions ".
"The calendar is therefore proposed - added the commissioner - as a balancing point of the different requests coming from the various subjects that make up the hunting world with the aim of making choices as appropriate as possible, in full compliance with the laws in force, national and European. In harmony with the hunting world we have worked to strengthen the presence of native species in Umbria and the repopulation with quality game and for this reason we have accepted the proposal to close the hunt for the female pheasant, in advance, in the month of November just to protect its reproduction. ". "In addition - Cecchini announced - recently, as the regional council, we entrusted the management of the San Vito in Monte breeding center to the regional forestry agency and approved the agreement with the three ATCs which commits them to take game from the structure that produces with highly innovative methodologies ".
“This will make it possible to favor the adaptation of the fauna released for repopulation, in particular hares and pheasants. A commitment - he continued - carried out by the Region which is coupled with the similar initiative carried out by the Province of Perugia in the Wild Fauna Production Center of Torre Certalta di Umbertide, especially for partridge ". Then addressing the issues of rebalancing and containing some species and the damage caused by wildlife, Cecchini highlighted how for the ungulates the calendar foresees the opening of the hunt on June 16th. “An anticipation - he said - also aimed at rebalancing the species. This also applies to wild boar hunting which, as required by law 157, opens from the first useful day of October for three consecutive months. In this case, containment can be carried out 365 days a year in the permitted forms, including containment at the stop from the start of the season. The damage caused by these species, in particular wild boar and roe deer, amounts to almost three million euros for farmers and motorists ”.
“It is for this reason - he added - that it is necessary to face this emergency by making the best use of the possibilities offered by the regulations governing containment. The solution to the problem - underlined Cecchini - cannot come only from the use of shotguns, but from the use of the best and most modern techniques and the wise use of laws and tools available ”. "And in this context - concluded the commissioner - is the Life project of which Umbria is the leader which allocates almost 2 million euros to study the dynamics of ungulates and the best technologies for the prevention of road accidents in an innovative way.
