Wednesday the regional council of Umbria approved the regulation for the management of the hunting of ungulates through the selection hunting: replaces the previous one dated 1999 which concerned only cervids and bovids. The substantial novelty, as known, concerns the insertion of the wild boar. In particular, it is emphasized that "on observation of the competent council commission, the possibility of sampling in wildlife and hunting farms has been envisaged even for hunters who are not in possession of the qualification for selection hunting, provided they are accompanied by a hunter who be provided with it. "
As regards the recognition of the authorization to take wild boar with selection hunting it is foreseen for «hunters already qualified for the roe and fallow deer species, after attending a supplementary course. Paragraph 2 of the pre-adopted text which provided for the obligation to use lead-free ammunition was expunged". For selection hunting - it is specified in the regulation - «exclusively rifled-barrel weapons in the calibers allowed by the law 11 February 1992, n. 157 with single manual loading and equipped with aiming optics; for the different species of ungulates the following minimum sizes are allowed: roe deer equal to or greater than 5,56 mm with case length not less than mm. 40; wild boar and fallow deer equal to or greater than 6,5 mm; deer 7 mm ".
In February, the regional councilor for agriculture and hunting, Roberto Morroni, explained that the «containment of wild boars will soon be practiced also through selection hunting, further strengthening the measures to stem the abnormal spread throughout the Umbrian territory ». There was no lack of controversy on the subject.
