The hunt for wild turtledove
Finally from this year many Regions have managed to implement the National Management Plan for Wild Turtledove in the correct way and therefore it will be possible to go back to hunt this splendid migrator. Certainly the practices to follow they will not be comfortable for many hunters and the allowed game bags of the most abundant, but remember that it is a species in difficulty and it is our task to manage and respect it in order to be able to hunt it for a long time. There are numerous Regions that have obtained a favorable opinion from ISPRA and the long and assiduous work of Hunting Federation it will finally be paid off. We therefore ask you to return to participate in the collection of wings with the usual enthusiasm and participation.
The reporting system
Unfortunately, last year only the Molise Region had the opportunity to participate in the project, but this year we will be many more. This year each Region has drawn up its own reporting system, we invite you to contact your regional representatives for clarification on the specifications and to comply with the regulations given. We also remind you that the wings can be sent whole and dried (one per individual is sufficient) or you can take a photo and send it to the addresses below. Why is it very important to collect the wings of turtledoves? Especially to demonstrate the reproductive success of the species. Because it is important to collect data, especially in the case of this species, which is the subject of a European and National Management Plan (ongoing).
Wings Collection Method
Cut one of the two wings, at the point closest to the body. Dry the "open" wings in the sun for a few days, holding them firmly with the help of pins. Store and then deliver in paper and not plastic bags, specifying the quantity of wings contained in the case of large packages. Also for those who choose to collaborate by sending the photographs it is sufficient to photograph only one wing per individual. Do not send duplicate photos of the same individual otherwise the data will be falsified. The wing must be photographed in its entirety and with a good resolution (even from a mobile phone), with indication of the date and province of killing. All hunters, of any association, are invited to collaborate, asking for information from:
