An interesting article from two days ago in the famous French newspaper Le Monde he asked himself the reasons for the bird drop. The transalpine newspaper has raised the alarm on the serious situation of the population, in particular the virtual extinction of the partridge in the laboratory-area of the CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research). The massive disappearance would be close to ecological catastrophe and the topic was deepened today by the Italian hunting associations. On average, the bird populations of the French countryside are reduced by a third within 15 years.
According to the researchers, the reason would be the increasingly intense use of agricultural practices, with a decline that was accentuated especially in the two-year period 2008-2009. The result was obtained after examining the STOC program, namely the temporal monitoring of birds. The other method used was that which provides 160 observation points (10 hectares each). The most significant decreases concerned species such as the finch, the dove, the blackbird and the wood pigeon.
The decline is also associated with the depletion of insects, precisely because of agricultural practices. Carabus, the most common beetle of all, has decreased by as much as 85%. In addition to this delicate situation we must add the environmental degradation, as birds are also bad for the microfauna of the soils. The French scenario, among other things, it is not very different from that observed in other European countries. Nations such as the Netherlands, Sweden and Great Britain have tried to reverse the trend, but have not yet succeeded.
