Following the question presented by the parliamentarians of the League Dreosto, Casanova, Tardino and Zambelli, the European Commission responded positively to the control of opportunistic predatory species. This was announced by the Vice President of the Hunting and Biodiversity Intergroup Marco Dreosto "in consideration of the significant increase in predatory species, with particular reference to those that compromise the reproductive success of nesting birds, the EC has informed us that it intends to approach the planning of actions for species as a matter of priority, which would make it possible to deal holistically with the main pressures and threats for individual species ".
An example of this approach is the multispecies action plan for eight nesting waders in grassland areas, where recommendations are made to limit the impact of predators based on the best available scientific evidence. Predator control actions, including conditions relating to the use of derogations, must be undertaken in accordance with the legal requirements of the Birds Directive. The EC also specified that if systemic deficiencies emerge in meeting the legal requirements in a given Member State, the Commission may initiate infringement proceedings to ensure that corrective measures are taken for the restoration of bird species.
