Animal welfare associations LNDC (National League for the Defense of the Dog) e OIPA (International Animal Protection Organization) have decided to appeal to the Regional Administrative Court of Liguria against the provision of City of Genoa which provides for thekilling of wild boars. Sightings of ungulates in the Ligurian capital have increased, especially in the urban area and despite several catches, the emergency is not over.
According to the two associations, however, there would be no problem for the citizens, with the exception of road accidents, which are themselves judged to be "not serious". The Municipality of Genoa has issued the order to remove the wild, involving the staff of the wildlife-hunting surveillance and the Municipal Police, but animal rights activists do not like the measure as it is not necessary. Their alternative to the withdrawal is to go beyond the "culture of death".
The LNDC recalled how wild boars are also a problem for animals, therefore, electrified fences should be set up to prevent wild boars from entering the city. According to the OIPA, however, it has been shown that the abatements are not effective for the containment of the species: for the organization, the measure is trampling on the right to life of wild animals.
